The sign read; "My Husband, My Hero. Welcome Home"

Today, I had the most amazing, surreal and eye-opening experience. I landed at the airport in Atlanta and was heading up the escalator to get to baggage claim when I noticed, at the top of the escalator, an unusually large group of people had gathered. There were some who were dressed in military fatigues, but this one particular girl got my attention. She had on a white shirt and an American flag scarf. In her hands she held a sign that read "My Husband, My Hero."
As I looked around, I realized that there were a lot of people with their phones out, ready to record what was to be the obvious homecoming of a soldier that has been gone fighting a war, presumably in a country halfway around the world.
I don't know who they were, but I knew that this was going to be a special event, so I positioned myself, pulled out my phone and recorded it.

The look on her face was priceless -- the joy that no words can really express, except for tears, jumping up and down at the sight of her husband who had finally come home.
It was sobering to me. Here I am, going through life, day-to-day, worried about the little things in life. How is my job performance? Am I doing a good enough job?  Will the things stay on track?  Will I get home in time or meet a bunch of traffic? Will I get everything done in a timely manner? All of these things add stress to my life and, in turn, add stress to my family.  The real question that I ought to be asking is, "Am I being all that God intended me to be?  Am I taking advantage of the opportunities that God has place in my path.  Am I doing His will and am I leading a life, worthy of being called a Christian"
Here is this wife, eagerly awaiting the arrival of her husband who has been out fighting a war -- life-and-death situations on a daily basis -- all the while allowing for me to have the freedoms that I have here at home.
I also could not help but think about the homecoming of Jesus after his death on the cross, resurrection and then return home to be with the Father.  I can just imagine the joy and the excitement. The embrace between God the Father and Jesus, his Son, after being separated while Jesus came to earth to find what had been lost.
May God bless the soldiers that sacrifice their time with their families and their loved ones.  They sacrifice birthdays and Christmas, Thanksgiving and special holidays.  They sacrifice anniversaries; the births of their children, and then some go on to make the ultimate sacrifice; their lives.
The Bible says in John 15:13, "Greater love has no one than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends."
That is what this soldier was willing to do -- go to war and possibly have to lay down his life for his friends, his comrades, and freedom.  He was also willing to lay it down for people he's never met here in the USA, all to guarantee our freedom.
Christ did the same exact thing when He lay down his life on the cross to give us freedom from our sins, in order that we may live.

Sincerely;
