Oh my God. My Savior.
We all find ourselves at times trying to understand what this life is all about. Trying to gather ourselves together to just get through the day. Trying to make ends meet. Trying to meet the expectation of this life. We might feel overwhelmed and weighed down.
But who do we serve? Who do we love most? Who do we follow? Who do we look to for guidance? Who gave it all for us. Do you know him?
So if you are trying to figure out who Jesus is and if he is worth following, Dr. S.M. Lockridge does a great job of describing him for us. And yes, that's my king.
Sincerely;

Today, I had the
most amazing, surreal and eye-opening experience. I landed at the airport in
Atlanta and was heading up the escalator to get to baggage claim when I
noticed, at the top of the escalator, an unusually large group of people had
gathered. There were some who were dressed in military fatigues, but this one
particular girl got my attention. She had on a white shirt and an American flag
scarf. In her hands she held a sign that read "My Husband, My Hero."
As I looked
around, I realized that there were a lot of people with their phones out, ready
to record what was to be the obvious homecoming of a soldier that has been gone
fighting a war, presumably in a country halfway around the world.
I don't know who
they were, but I knew that this was going to be a special event, so I
positioned myself, pulled out my phone and recorded it.
The look on her
face was priceless -- the joy that no words can really express, except for
tears, jumping up and down at the sight of her husband who had finally come
home.
It was sobering
to me. Here I am, going through life, day-to-day, worried about the little
things in life. How is my job performance? Am I doing a good enough job? Will the things stay on track? Will I get home in time or meet a bunch of
traffic? Will I get everything done in a timely manner? All of these things add
stress to my life and, in turn, add stress to my family. The real question that I ought to be asking
is, "Am I being all that God intended me to be?Am I taking advantage of the opportunities
that God has place in my path.Am I
doing His will and am I leading a life, worthy of being called a
Christian"
Here is this
wife, eagerly awaiting the arrival of her husband who has been out fighting a
war -- life-and-death situations on a daily basis -- all the while allowing for
me to have the freedoms that I have here at home.
I
also could not help but think about the homecoming of Jesus after his death on
the cross, resurrection and then return home to be with the Father. I
can just imagine the joy and the excitement. The embrace between God the Father
and Jesus, his Son, after being separated while Jesus came to earth to find
what had been lost.
May God bless
the soldiers that sacrifice their time with their families and their loved
ones.They sacrifice birthdays and
Christmas, Thanksgiving and special holidays. They sacrifice anniversaries; the births of their children, and then
some go on to make the ultimate sacrifice; their lives.
The Bible says
in John 15:13, "Greater love has no one than this, to lay down one's life
for one's friends."
That is what
this soldier was willing to do -- go to war and possibly have to lay down his
life for his friends, his comrades, and freedom. He was also willing to lay it down for people
he's never met here in the USA, all to guarantee our freedom.
Christ did the
same exact thing when He lay down his life on the cross to give us freedom from
our sins, in order that we may live. It has been many years since I have seen my old friend from high school, Cory Hallet. But I have watched him via social media and spoken with him on the phone, and I am so encouraged by his love for God and how the Lord is opening doors for him in his ministry at Covered Bridge Church in Mableton, GA.
Recently, Cory was asked to speak to the Georgia State Senate. He was personally invited by Sen. Hunter Hill. Below is a video of that opportunity and the message that he delivered as the chaplain of the day. I enjoyed listening and I know you will as well.
What's interesting is that the night before, I had forgotten that he was going to be speaking the following morning, I was out of town and, for some reason, he came to mind. It was the next morning that I saw the post on Facebook and spent some time in prayer for him as he prepared to speak. Jokingly, I sent him a message asking him if it was going to be a fire-and-brimstone, "turn or burn" type of message? He laughed and replied back and said; "No, but I'm going to stay true to The Word of God." If you watch the video below, you will see that he did exactly that,
I pray that God will continue to bless his ministry as Cory pushes forward, upstream, against the flow of the river in a world that is quickly heading with the flow, downstream towards the waterfall, and that Cory is able to rescue as many people as possible, leading them toward the calm waters of grace that is only found in Jesus Christ and in the opposite direction of the dangers the world is heading towards.
Enjoy the video. And congratulations to my friend on having such a big door open for you by the grace and mercy of God.
Sincerely;
