Jesus Who?
Jesus. That name is synonymous with history, debate, movies, music, and legend. In the pages to come we hope to shed a little light on a few things. Who exactly was Jesus of Nazareth, what were the circumstances surrounding His life and the real reason that He came to earth. It was not for fame or glory, riches or power. He could have had all of that and more, yet He came for something much more valuable; more valuable than all the gold on earth, that is, you and I and our eternal salvation. It means so much to Jesus to have us with Him in eternity that His resolve, to bring us home, is backed by something more powerful than the fear of the crucifixion that he knew he would endure. That determination that drove Him then and still drives Him today is very real. Join us for the next few moments and see why someone you may not know would give up everything for you and me.
Scriptures to Help Explain Who Jesus Is
The Gospel of Matthew
1.13When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?
14So they said, Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.
15He said to them, But who do you say that I am?
16Simon Peter answered and said, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.
17Jesus answered and said to him, Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. 19And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth £will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. (Matthew 16:13-17)
2.1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was in the beginning with God.
The Gospel of John
3.21So Jesus said to them again, Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you. 22And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, Receive the Holy Spirit. 23If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.
24Now Thomas, called the Twin, one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. 25The other disciples therefore said to him, We have seen the Lord.
So he said to them, Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.
26And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace to you! 27Then He said to Thomas, Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing.
28And Thomas answered and said to Him, My Lord and my God!
29Jesus said to him, Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.
30And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; 31but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.
Throughout the New Testament, Jesus Christ continues to ask his disciples who they think He is. They all respond that He is the Christ, He is the Son of God.
