Salvation
Psalm 27:1: The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear?
There have been many books, many articles written on the subject of salvation, but the one and only book that can truly teach it is the Holy Bible. Unfortunately, knowing the Bible alone does not bring Salvation. As it is said in scripture, Jesus answered and said to him,
John 3:10,11. Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things? 11Most assuredly, I say to you, We speak what We know and testify what We have seen, and you do not receive Our witness.
The best way to begin the subject of salvation is with a definition of the word. The New Websters Dictionary and Thesaurus of the English Language defines salvation as the act of saving from destruction or catastrophe, esp. the saving of the soul from sin or its consequences (the condition of being saved) something that saves. (p. 882).
The scripture below, from the New King James Version of the Holy Bible looks in-depth at how salvation comes, what it is according to scripture and what happens when we receive it.
Cant Inherit It:
Genesis 28:10-15: Now Jacob went out from Beersheba and went toward Haran. So he came to a certain place and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. And he took one of the stones of that place and put it at his head, and he lay down in that place to sleep. Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.
And behold, the LORD stood above it and said: I am the LORD God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and your descendants. Also your descendants shall be as the dust of the earth; you shall spread abroad to the west and the east, to the north and the south; and in you and in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed. Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you.
For all People:
Isaiah 25:6: And in this mountain, The LORD of hosts will make for all people, A feast of choice pieces, A feast of wines on the lees, Of fat things full of marrow, Of well-refined wines on the lees.
Luke 24:47: and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Jesus, the Only Way to:
Mat 7:13,14: Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.
John 6:67, 68: Then Jesus said to the twelve, Do you also want to go away?
But Simon Peter answered Him, Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.
Acts 4:12 Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.
Romans 2:1: Therefore you are inexcusable, O man, whoever you are who judge, for in whatever you judge another you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things.
Knowing About Jesus is Not Enough For Salvation:
Mk 3:7-11: But Jesus withdrew with His disciples to the sea. And a great multitude from Galilee followed Him, and from Judea and Jerusalem and Idumea and beyond the Jordan; and those from Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, when they heard how many things He was doing, came to Him. So He told His disciples that a small boat should be kept ready for Him because of the multitude, lest they should crush Him. For He healed many, so that as many as had afflictions pressed about Him to touch Him. And the unclean spirits, whenever they saw Him, fell down before Him and cried out, saying, You are the Son of God.
Submission Leads to Salvation:
Luke 1:30, 31: Then the angel said to her, Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS.
Jesus Doing, Not Ours:
1 Corinthians 28:31: and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, 29that no flesh should glory in His presence. 30But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from Godand righteousness and sanctification and redemption31that, as it is written, He who glories, let him glory in the LORD.
How to Reserve It:
Luke 13:24,25: Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able. When once the Master of the house has risen up and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open for us, and He will answer and say to you, I do not know you, where you are from.
John 17:3 And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
Responding to Gods Invitation of Salvation:
And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you; for you shall be repaid at the resurrection of the just.
Luke 14:15-24: Now when one of those who sat at the table with Him heard these things, he said to Him, Blessed is he who shall eat bread in the kingdom of God! Then He said to him, A certain man gave a great supper and invited many, and sent his servant at supper time to say to those who were invited, Come, for all things are now ready. But they all with one accord began to make excuses. The first said to him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must go and see it. I ask you to have me excused. And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to test them. I ask you to have me excused. 20Still another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come. So that servant came and reported these things to his master. Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in here the poor and the maimed and the lame and the blind. And the servant said, Master, it is done as you commanded, and still there is room. Then the master said to the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. For I say to you that none of those men who were invited shall taste my supper.
As an Act of Total Forgiveness:
Luke 23:34: Then Jesus said, Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.
A Gift from God:
John 3:8 : The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.
Heb 5:9: And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him,
Security of Salvation:
John 6:39: This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day.
1Jn 2:3-6: Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says, I know Him, and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.
Holy Spirit Urges Us Toward:
Jn 6:44: No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day.
Obeying the Law Does Not Bring Salvation
Acts 21:23,24: Therefore do what we tell you: We have four men who have taken a vow. Take them and be purified with them, and pay their expenses so that they may shave their heads, and that all may know that those things of which they were informed concerning you are nothing, but that you yourself also walk orderly and keep the law.
Gal 2:17-19: But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is Christ therefore a minister of sin? Certainly not! For if I build again those things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor. For I through the law died to the law that I might live to God.
God Saves Us By Faith Alone:
Rom. 3:28: Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law.
Gal 1:7: which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ.
So Simple to Receive Salvation:
1 Corinthians 1:28-31: and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence. But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from Godand righteousness and sanctification and redemptionthat, as it is written, He who glories, let him glory in the LORD.
Im a Good Person, Isnt that Enough?
No One Good Enough For Salvation:
Romans 3:10-18: As it is written:
There is none righteous, no, not one;
There is none who understands;
There is none who seeks after God.
They have all turned aside;
They have together become unprofitable;
There is none who does good, no, not one
Their throat is an open tomb;
With their tongues they have practiced deceit
The poison of asps is under their lips;
Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness.
Their feet are swift to shed blood;
Destruction and misery are in their ways;
And the way of peace they have not known.
There is no fear of God before their eyes
Ive Done a lot of wrong, Can I Ever Be Forgiven?
